Con questo sito io, Axel Farner, classe 1964, vorrei offrire uno sguardo sul mio lavoro artistico. Oltre a studiare arte e geografia per l’insegnamento, ho completato una addestramento come scultore del legno. Dopo aver lavorato come insegnante in Germania e in Italia, attualmente mi dedico principalmente all’arte in Puglia.
Se per lungo tempo il mio focus creativo è stato il disegno e la pittura, negli ultimi anni mi sono dedicato nuovamente alla scultura, dando particolare importanza al legno d’ulivo. Da anni gli ulivi pugliesi sono colpiti da un batterio che ha causato una moria su vasta scala. Per questo motivo cerco di dare nuova vita al legno proveniente da questi alberi attraverso la mia arte. Nell’aprile 2024 ho esposto i risultati di questo processo a Francavilla Fontana. Da allora ho partecipato a diverse mostre incentrate sull’uso creativo del legno d’ulivo, esponendo anche parte del mio lavoro pittorico.Inoltre ho realizzato teste e elementi scenici in legno d’ulivo per il Granteatrino, Teatro Casa di Pulcinella a Bari. Vorrei sottolineare che il legno d’ulivo possiede un’intensa vitalità e il mio approccio artistico si ispira profondamente a questa caratteristica.Molti dei miei disegni sono nati durante i miei viaggi, ma l’Italia ha avuto un ruolo speciale in questo contesto. Ho insegnato arte per molti anni nel Italia del Nord e, insieme alla mia famiglia, ho viaggiato molto in tutto il paese.Penso che la mia opera artistica sia stata influenzata da molteplici esperienze. Tra queste il fatto di aver trascorso parte della mia infanzia in Egitto, dove l’arte dell’antico Egitto mi ha affascinato sin da piccolo. In particolare le sculture monumentali e gli affreschi hanno avuto un forte effetto su di me. Anche un lungo soggiorno in India ha influenzato profondamente il mio lavoro. Credo che, in questo contesto, i colori vivaci del paese e le sacre mucche fossero di grande importanza.Il fatto che gli animali siano spesso centrali nelle mie opere è probabilmente legato alle molte esperienze che ho avuto con loro durante i miei viaggi. Anche un periodo di sei mesi trascorso in un’azienda agricola, dove ho lavorato intensamente con le mucche, era di grande importanza.Attività espositive in Italia:

My name is Axel Farner, born in Germany in 1964. With this website I want to give an insight into my artistic work. In addition to a teaching degree in art and geography, I also trained as a wood sculptor. I worked as a teacher in Germany and Italy. I now live in Puglia and my main focus is my art. While my creative focus was previously on drawing and painting, in recent years I have increasingly returned to sculpturing - with olive wood playing a particularly significant role.For some time now the olive trees of Puglia have been infected by a bacterium, leading to thousands of trees to die. I try to maintain their beauty by using the wood for my art. In April 2024 I organised a public exhibition in Francavilla Fontana to showcase this project. Since then I have participated in several exhibitions focusing on the creative use and intricate nature of olive wood. In this context I have also exhibited several of my paintings. Additionally, I created heads and stage elements from olive wood for a puppet theatre in Bari (Granteatrino, Teatro Casa di Pulcinella). Olive wood has a strong and robust vitality, and my artistic process is based on this characteristic.Many of my drawings were created during my travels, with Italy playing a special role as I travelled extensively across the country with my family whilst teaching art in the north Italian city of Varese.A variety of influences have shaped and continue to shape my artistic work. Among them are my childhood years spent in Egypt, where I became fascinated by ancient Egyptian art from a young age - especially the monumental sculptures and wall paintings. Travelling across India for six months has also had a signifcant impact on my art due to the country’s intense colours and sacred cows roaming amongst the people. Animals are a reoccuring feature throughout my art as I’ve come across them many times during my travels and worked closely with cows on a farm for six months.Exhibition activities in Italy:

Mit dieser Homepage möchte ich, Axel Farner, Jahrgang 1964, einen Blick auf meine künstlerische Arbeit ermöglichen. Neben dem Studium von Kunst und Geografie auf Lehramt habe ich eine Ausbildung zum Holzbildhauer absolviert. Nach Tätigkeiten als Lehrer in Deutschland und Italien betätige ich mich momentan vor allem künstlerisch in Apulien. Lag mein kreativer Schwerpunkt lange Zeit beim Zeichnen und Malen, habe ich mich in den letzten Jahren wieder verstärkt der Bildhauerei zugewandt, wobei dem Olivenholz eine besondere Bedeutung zukommt. Da die Olivenbäume Apuliens seit längerem von einem Bakterium befallen sind, was zu einem gigantischen Baumsterben geführt hat, versuche ich das dadurch anfallende Holz künstlerisch zu nutzen. Im April 2024 habe ich die Ergebnisse dieses Prozesses in Francavilla Fontana ausgestellt. Seitdem habe ich an mehreren Ausstellungen, bei denen die kreative Nutzung von Olivenholz im Mittelpunkt stand, teilgenommen. Auch Teile meiner malerische Arbeit habe ich in diesem Zusammenhang präsentiert. Zusätzlich habe ich für das Puppentheater in Bari (Granteatrino, Teatro Casa di Pulcinella) Köpfe und auch Elemente der Bühne aus Olivenholz hergestellt. Betonen möchte ich, dass sich das Holz des Olivenbaumes durch eine intensive Lebendigkeit auszeichnet und sich meine Arbeitsweise sehr stark an dieser orientiert.
Viele meiner Zeichnungen sind auf Reisen entstanden, wobei Italien eine besondere Rolle einnimmt, da ich viele Jahre in Norditalien als Kunstlehrer gearbeitet habe und in dieser Zeit, zusammen mit meiner Familie, viele Reisen durch das Land unternommen habe.
Ich gehe davon aus, dass verschiedenste Einflüsse meine künstlerische Arbeit geprägt haben. Dazu zähle ich unter anderem, dass ich Teile meiner Kindheit in Ägypten verbracht habe, wo mich die Kunst der alten Ägypter schon früh fasziniert hat. Besonders die monumentalen Skulpturen und Wandmalereien sind hier zu nennen. Auch ein längerer Aufenthalt in Indien hat meine künstlerische Arbeit entscheidend beeinflusst. In diesem Zusammenhang sind besonders die intensive Farbigkeit des Landes und die heiligen Kühe zu nennen. Dass in meinen Arbeiten Tiere oftmals von zentraler Bedeutung sind, hat sicherlich damit zu tun, dass ich auf Reisen viele verschiedene Erfahrungen mit Tieren gemacht habe, aber auch mit einer halbjährigen Tätigkeit auf einem Milchviehbetrieb, bei der ich intensivst mit Kühen gearbeitet habe.Ausstellungsaktivitäten in Italien:
